Importance of Sanitization

Pools & spas are extremely vulnerable to illness causing bacteria and other contaminants introduced to the water by bathers and environmental factors. Sanitizers provide protection for swimmers by continually disinfecting these harmful microorganisms. Brominated sanitizers are particularly strong and effective disinfectants. They also act as an algaecide and oxidizer, keeping the water clean and clear. Additionally, they will leave a beneficial residual in the water that continues to destroy new contaminants as they enter the pool. Brominated sanitizers provide swimmer protection that should be a critical part of any pool or spa care program.

FEATURES

Brominating Tablets, commonly called BCDMH (1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin) are the most popular method of bromine sanitizing. As the tablets dissolve, both hypobromous acid and hypochlorous acid are released, hence the superior disinfection properties of the compound. Upon contact with microorganisms and other organic content, the hypobromous acid converts to the inactive form or spent bromine. The hypochlorous acid then reacts with the spent bromine to convert it back to the active sanitizing hypobromous form. Although chlorine is present, it is used primarily as a regenerative catalyst for the bromine while assisting with disinfection and oxidation.

APPLICATION

Pools:

• Ensure all pool equipment is working properly, backwash filter system following manufacturer’s directions.
• Adjust pH between 7.2-7.6 and establish a bromine or chlorine residual of 1-2 ppm in the pool.
• If residual is established with this product in a brominator, use the brominator at the highest feed rate. When bromine residual reaches 1-2 ppm, adjust feeder accordingly.
• To maintain bromine residual, adjust the brominator feed rate to assure a constant treatment level of 1-3 ppm in residential pools and 3-5 ppm in commercial pools.
• Use a test kit or test strips regularly to maintain a bromine residual in the water.

Spa and Hot Tubs:

• Ensure all pool equipment is working properly, backwash filter system following manufacturer’s directions.
• Adjust pH between 7.2-7.6
• Fill spa bromine feeder with this product and adjust feeder to yield a bromine residual of 2-4 ppm in residential spas and 4-6 ppm in commercial spas.
• Check feeder regularly and add additional product as needed to maintain the bromine residual.
